diy translucent powder

a simple way to upgrade your beauty routine

by Quinn Wilson

Looking for ways to save some money and save the environment?  One way is to make your own make-up!  I always look for simple ways that I can decrease my environmental footprint and DIY-ing make-up is a new and interesting way to do so.  To get started here’s a simple recipe for a mattifying translucent powder from Little Green Dot.
What you need:
½ cup arrowroot
¼ cup cornstarch
1-3 tbsp. cocoa powder

Mix together the arrowroot and cornstarch, then gradually add in the cocoa powder depending on how dark you want the powder.  Since it’s a translucent powder, I recommend staying on the lighter side with the cocoa powder.
The silky soft arrowroot and oil absorbing cornstarch work together to keep your skin smooth and oil-free throughout your day.  A fun bonus is the scent that has hints of chocolatey goodness from the cocoa powder.

Fun fact: Arrowroot, also known as coontie, is a starch made from a plant that thrives in Florida’s environment.  Coontie was a staple food for the Seminole tribe in Florida, who used the starch to make bread and other foods.

Try this recipe out and let me know what you think! See you next week!
