High fashion has dominated the fashion industry since the 1900s. With brands like Prada, Gucci, Balenciaga, Celine, and Louis Vuitton, we’ve all fallen into the trance of high-end clothing, but for the majority of people this clothing isn’t accessible.
So, how can one get their hands on these high-end garments without having to pay the retail price found in stores? By shopping second hand! There are many websites and apps that provide less expensive high-end clothing. Websites like Grailed, Depop, and even eBay are great resources.
On the website Grailed, you can look for clothes from any designer/brand you want and find specific pieces. Since the clothing is preowned, the price is lower than if you were to find it in the store. But if you aren’t satisfied with the price the seller is selling it for, you can always place your own bid on it and negotiate. Unless you bid some unreasonable price, most of the time the seller is willing to let it go for cheaper!
If shopping second hand doesn’t seem to be for you, try looking for cheaper alternatives with similar cuts or designs as the pieces you originally wanted. A good website for this is mnml. The have pieces like their $43.00 Drop Crotch Cargo Pants, which is a direct alternative to the $875.00 Rick Owens DRKSHDW drop-crotched trouser. Alternatives like this exist all throughout the internet, you just have to spend a little extra time looking!

Now that there has been a push to combat fast fashion and look towards more sustainable options, many are turning to vintage shops. With the rise of social media, Instagram shops, and apps, shopping vintage is more accessible.
The one online vintage option is an app called Vestiaire Collective. An easy and useful app when searching for great deals on designer shoes, bags, accessories, and clothes. Vestiaire Collective authenticates every piece put on the site, making shopping for pre-owned luxury safer and worry-free. Vestiaire makes it possible to own unique pieces that would be lost in the world if not for reselling. They also sell “unsigned” or unbranded brands that are usually from Italy and France that are of amazing quality and lower price point than most luxury pieces.
IRVRSBL is another amazing option for all things pre owned luxury. Most items priced around $400, with bags and shoes being their main focus. Selling priceless pieces such as collectable FENDI Baguettes, like this one shown, and the iconic Balenciaga Motorcycle bag.
What Goes Around Comes Around is a online shop with a few locations scattered across New York, such as in SoHo and Tribeca, that sells the rare of the rarest pieces. With the best collection of Louis Vuitton, Chanel, and Hermes. This shop has quickly risen in ranks of vintage shops with almost every celebrity working with them to create their selection of the perfect vintage pieces. Even if not to shop, visiting their dreamy stores should be on every vintage lovers bucket list.
Why not shop vintage and buy the most unique pieces? With all different types of platform to buy on with all different price points, shopping vintage is easier than driving to your local mall. My advice? Go out there and buy your dream bag.

As we all know, Tik Tok is an extremely powerful and influential social media platform. Recently I have seen on my For You Page a huge rave about putting Chlorophyll in your water. Because this specific mineral has caused a significant mainstream attention, I decided to look into what exactly Chlorophyll consists of and the benefits of it.
If you never paid attention to science in your fifth grade class, chlorophyll is a green molecule in plants that absorbs sunlight during photosynthesis, and it converts that light into energy. But how does it help us? Well, it actually has a lot of benefits: odor control, improves gut health, gives you energy, supports your immune system, build liver function, and helps wound healing.
WHERE YOU CAN FIND CHLOROPHYLL DROPS OR CHLOROPHYLL WATER
I will be trying this trend, but I’m curious to see if you guys will be too! Tag us on Instagram with pictures of your Chlorophyll water @cma_fsu. This is my last blog post for the semester, so I wish you all a fantastic summer! See you later!
This easy recipe will make you question why you didn’t start drinking matcha sooner!
by abigail thielen
Matcha is a powder made from ground up green tea leaves. Traditionally enjoyed in East Asia, this powder is whisked into hot water to form a vibrant green beverage. Consuming matcha powder also comes with health benefits because the leaves are packed with antioxidants. Matcha has a slightly bitter taste on its own, but combining it with your favorite dairy alternative and sweetener creates a delightful beverage to enjoy in the springtime.
The key to a great iced matcha latte is a handheld milk frother. Because matcha powder is so fine, it clumps up quite easily. I recently bought a milk frother and it makes preparing lattes so much easier and enjoyable. Here’s a link to one you can buy:
Once you acquire a mini whisk or a milk frother, the recipe is a breeze
What you’ll need:
1.5 grams of matcha powder (I use packets sold at Trader Joe’s)
1-2 tablespoons of hot water
1 cup of oat milk (or whatever milk you drink)
Brown sugar to taste
Optional: vanilla, coconut, or lavender extract for extra flavor
One handheld milk frother or mini whisk
Add the matcha powder to your preferred mug or glass. Pour in the hot water and whisk the ingredients together until the matcha is evenly mixed. Add the sugar and optional flavor to the mix and whisk again. Pour in the oat milk and combine until a light green shade is achieved. Add ice cubes and enjoy!
Once you find your perfect matcha-oat milk ratio, you’ll be making lattes all the time and wondering why you ever spent 5 dollars on one at Starbucks. See you next week!

Let’s talk about kombucha--the fermented tea drink that is everywhere now. The drink, which originated in southeast Asia, has been popularized due to its unique taste and various health benefits. Personally, I cannot get enough of the delicious drink.
Kombucha is great for digestion. Through the fermentation process, it creates probiotics which help support a healthy gut. Since the drink is made from tea, it can also contain antioxidants that help prevent cell damage. There’s even increasing evidence that kombucha may help prevent certain cancers.
There are even more possible benefits of kombucha:
- May help lower cholesterol and blood sugar levels
- Helps reduce inflammation
- Can strengthen the immune system
- Can increase energy levels
- Supports cardiovascular health
- Can boost metabolism
Where To Find It
Kombucha can be found in almost any grocery store or market. There are many different brands that each make delicious and unique flavors:
GT's Living Foods is definitely my favorite brand of kombucha. Made with no added sugar, GT’s has so many refreshing flavors.
Kevita Master Brew Kombucha
Brew Dr. Kombucha is the only kombucha brand that is a Certified B Corporation!
Big Easy Bucha
Tally Kombucha is made right here in Tallahassee since 2016!
Kombucha can be “love it or leave it” taste for many, and for me, I love it (however, when I first tried kombucha I didn’t particularly like the vinegar-y taste, so it can definitely be an acquired taste😆). So go out and give it a try… it could become your next drink of choice.
See you next week!

Finding motivation to study is hard. By now, every student knows that taking breaks is so important to stay motivated and inspired throughout the semester. However, with a pandemic going on and classes being online, it’s hard to separate your “me-time” from your work time, and with no spring break this year, I’m definitely struggling to find the motivation to stay on top of assignments, papers, and exams. With the end of the semester nearing and work piling up, now is the time to really dig in and work hard (while still giving yourself much needed breaks).
Need some help getting motivated? Here are some simple tips to try out:
Motivation and Study Tools You Need:
For some study inspiration, I highly recommend scrolling through Pinterest or these Instagram accounts (but don’t fall into a social media hole to avoid studying):
We’re almost to the end of the semester, so I hope this gives you the extra inspiration you need to finish strong! Study hard (and relax), and I’ll see you next time!

Spring has sprung in Tallahassee! It’s finally starting to warm up and if you’re anything like me, then it’s beach time. Going to the beach is my favorite thing to do in the summer; there’s nothing better than getting a nice tan. So today I want to give my fav things to bring to the beach.
First, sunscreen. It’s so important and it helps with anti-aging, gotta love it. The one I’m using right now is Elta-MD SPF 40.
Next, I always bring a cute sheet to lay on. Target has some cute ones, or you can always find on Amazon. If you’re not into the sheet, a towel always works too. Snacks are another thing that I always bring. It saves you money and it’ll help keep your energy up for a long day in the sun.
Then I always bring a giant water bottle to make sure I don’t get dehydrated. A cute pair of whatever sunglasses you’re feeling is essential too. I’m super into the 70’s aviator trend at the moment, so I’ve been reaching for those these days.
Finally, a cute bikini is all that’s left to make the most of your beach day. I think if you feel good in what you’re wearing, you’ll already be more inclined to have a great day. That’s what I wish for all of you!
Let me know what your beach day essentials consist of :)

This dairy milk alternative is environmentally friendly and extremely delicious!
At the beginning of March, Starbucks finally launched Oatly oat milk as a dairy alternative along with some crazy-good specialty oat milk drinks: the Honey Oatmilk Latte and the Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso. The launch was so successful that it’s selling out at many locations, including the Strozier library cafe. Unlike Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts has offered oat milk for quite a while, and they charge a lot less (I absolutely adore their iced matcha lattes with oat milk).
Oat milk tastes great in cereal, smoothies, and lattes; it’s even being used in dairy-free yogurts and ice creams by brands like Oatly and Trader Joes. Because it is a newly available alternative in most stores, oat milk’s prices tend to run higher than most almond and soy milk brands. Price aside, here are some of the biggest reasons to switch over to this option:
1. Oat milk is environmentally sustainable.
According to BBC News, oat milk requires about one eighth of the amount of water needed to produce almond milk. It also emits far less carbon emission than cow’s milk and rice milk.
2. Oat milk is nut-allergy and soy-allergy friendly.
For those who want to go dairy-free or vegan but experience nut or soy allergies, oat milk is a great option.
3. Oat milk is simply delicious.
This milk has a slightly nutty and naturally sweet flavor with a creamy, light consistency. From my experience with dairy alternatives, it has the closest taste and consistency to cow’s milk out of most options you’d find at the grocery store.
If you aren’t willing to go for ready-made oat milk in stores, it is ridiculously easy (and cheap) to make at home. Here’s a recipe I adapted from several different TikToks on the subject:
1 cup rolled of oats
6 cups water
Sweetener to taste (Options include maple syrup, dates, sugar, brown sugar, etc.)
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract (optional)
¼ teaspoon of salt
1. Blend the ingredients in a blender for 30 seconds. Avoid over-blending to get the best texture.
2. Strain the milk with a cheesecloth or mesh strainer. Discard the pulp and strain the mixture again for a smoother consistency, but do not squeeze the cheesecloth.
3. Refrigerate and enjoy!
As far as dairy alternatives go, oat milk is near perfection. You’ll be seeing a lot more of it in the coming years, so you might as well add a carton to your shopping cart on your next grocery trip just to see what the hype is all about. See you next week!

I am all about eating healthier this year, and I am working towards this goal every day. I often struggle with coming up with creative, exciting, and healthy meals, so I wanted to reach out and ask anyone for tips or some of their favorite recipes! In the meantime, I have perfected my grocery staples every time I run to Publix to get food for the week. These specific products are some of my favorite grocery items to purchase and some I’ve been loving recently! Especially in college, it can be difficult to shop for yourself and find items within your budget, so I sincerely hope this helps. Happy shopping and comment below some of your grocery staples and maybe I’ll purchase them next week!
This staple is great for an easy, on-the-go snack that is full of Potassium and Vitamin B6.
Another great easy snack that are full of different vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
Amazing source of protein and it is extremely healthy and delicious!
4. YOUR FAV BERRIES
Always a must have!! I love spinach, mushrooms, or Broccoli!
Perfect to add to your meal or to make avocado toast!
Publix always has them on sale for BOGO free, so run don’t walk to Publix! Great breakfast option or snack!
7. ALMOND MILK
I’m slowly trying to cut dairy out of my life, so this has been an amazing dairy-free alternative.
8. DAIRY FREE ICE CREAM
Ice cream that’s only 280 calories AND Dairy-free, this is a NECESSITY!!
How you can make a positive impact with your purchases

Most people don’t think of the person or the production process behind the companies or the products that they buy. From sweatshops to illegal wages, workers are often overworked, neglected, and disrespected. Fair trade is a concept based on equity and respect for people and the environment that prevents the problems previously mentioned. It ensures fair wages, safe working conditions, respect of cultural identity, environmental stewardship, and rights of children. The Fair Trade Federation outlines these and several other principles that lie at the core of fair trade practices here.
As a consumer, there are many different ways you can support fair trade workers around the globe. Buying fair trade food and ingredients such as bananas, cocoa, sugar, and coffee means that you are supporting companies that produce sustainably and treat their farmers with respect. In these farming industries, child labor is widespread, especially with cocoa farming. Large chocolate companies, such as Hershey, have promised to stop sourcing their cocoa from farms that use child labor, yet the companies have not kept their promises. This is why buying fair trade chocolate is a small way anyone can make a difference.
Fair trade does, on average, cost more than products that are not fair trade. This is what deters many from shopping consciously. However, it is important to keep in mind that the reason you can buy some items so cheap is because the person who made it works long hours without being paid anywhere close to a living wage. With fair trade, you're using your dollars to make a difference.
Additionally, there are other small shops or larger organizations that consumers can buy from to support fair trade. Fair trade offers you one-of-a-kind and handmade products that you cannot find anywhere else. Here’s a list of fair trade gift shops that sell home goods, clothing and jewelry stores, chocolate companies, and more:
A small chain of fair trade gift shops, Global Gifts, is another great option for supporting fair trade. Global Gifts is where I first learned about what fair trade is; I worked as a volunteer at one of their shops where I helped educate others about the importance of fair trade. To change the way the consumers shop, educating more people about fair trade is an important step. Every choice you make as a consumer has an impact on someone else’s life, so choose fair trade! Fair trade is the direction to go in order to support the lives of workers around the globe.
Shop smart and shop consciously! See you next week!
