FIVE BIKINI BRANDS THAT ARE ECO-FRIENDLY AND AFFORADABLE

BY KIARA GAJO

Love it or hate it, bikini season is upon us once again. Whether you’re jumping for joy at the thought of laying out in the sun or dreading the sweltering days to come, here are some of my favorite affordable bikini brands that have put their green thumb on display this summer.
Blackbough Bikinis

Top of the list spot goes to my current favorite, Blackbough Bikini. This brand sells suits that are made from 80 percent regenerated fabric, an alternative to nylon. Producing nylon has serious environmental impacts such as animal consumption of harmful plastics and toxins and the degradation of natural ecosystems. Additionally, Blackbough cut down their contribution to global waste consumption by switching to cornstarch mailer packaging bags. Their patterns and sizes have incredible diversity with prices ranging from $20-$50.
You can check Blackbough Bikinis out on their website here.

Kulani Kinis

In Hawaiian, the word “Kulani” means “like heaven.” Kulani Kinis originates on Hutchinson Beach, Australia but has spread all over the world to Europe, California, and to the beautiful islands of Hawaii. Kulani Kinis follows a 100 percent waterless process for every single product they manufacture. Their website claims that “pretreatments, steaming or washing are not required due to their water-based NeoPigment™ inks that are absolutely free of heavy metals, formaldehyde and Alkylphenol Ethoxylates (APE).” Therefore, their production process, and the product itself is non-hazardous and biodegradable, with an abundance of styles typically ranging from $36.99-$69.00.
You can shop Kulani Kinis to check out their heavenly patterns and sizes on their website here.
Moana Bikini

Whether you’re into interchangeable neutrals or bold, bright patterns, Moana Bikini has got you covered this summer. The Moana Bikini is defined by the “double side straps with ties that make a sexy bikini look.” The bottoms have low to high coverage and are very adaptable for a range in body types. Made from sustainable swimwear fabric, Moana Bikinis are soft in touch, come in a diverse array of colors that are sure to make your skin pop, and typically range from $69-$125.
You can shop Moana Bikinis on their website here.
Dippin' Daisy's

You’ve probably seen them on Instagram by their aesthetic feed or through one of their many engaging giveaways. Dippin’ Daisy’s has taken eco-friendly to a whole new level. With trendy sustainable bikinis and quality outerwear for summer ranging from only $30-$80, the brand has switched to using vegan materials such as recycled nylon, organic and natural rubber trees, recycled foam, and lead-free non-toxic metal. They also repurpose the unsold items at their warehouse in Los Angeles, California as well as engaging in digital printing (to save paper, duh) and biodegradable packaging.
You can shop Dippin’ Daisy’s and read more about their sustainability plans on their website here.
Volcom

Who says eco-friendly needs to be expensive? These Volcom bikinis, which typically range from $35-$80, are made from 78 percent Econyl recycled yarn. In 2017, Volcom partnered with Econyl and reinvented their best selling Simply Seamless bikini styles by introducing Repreve® recycled fibers made from recycled plastic bottles and regenerated nylon, AKA recycled fishing nets and other post-consumer nylon waste.
You can shop Volcom swim, surf, and skate wear and read about their eco-friendly rebrand all summer long here.
