Trend Alert: 60s and 70s inspired fashion

How to get this groovy style into your spring and summer 2021 wardrobe

by abigail thielen

As you may have seen, many of our favorite celebrities and influencers have been incorporating 60s and 70s inspired styles into their looks and I absolutely adore it.  Phoebe Bridgers wore this gorgeous bishop sleeve mini dress by Who What Wear. She’s also styled in white patent knee high boots to complete the mod-inspired look.

The vibrant colors, groovy prints, and gaudy accessories of this era are so fun for experimenting with your style. Here are some keys to tying this trend into your personal style:
1. Bold Prints
Psychedelic patterns are very on trend at the moment and catch anyone’s eye instantly. These prints look great in fun color combinations like pink and green, but they can also bring life to neutrals like black and white or shades of brown:

If you aren’t into a psychedelic print, opt for a bigger, high-contrast pattern like this simple 4x4 checkerboard:

2. Mini skirts and dresses
Tight mini skirts are all the rage and perfect for spring and summer weather. Pair these with some funky nylon stockings for some extra playfulness:

3. Platform Shoes
Chunky platform shoes are such a power move and give anyone a huge boost in confidence. The extra bonus is that they are surprisingly super comfortable! Pair these with a mini skirt or jeans to look both intimidating and cute at the same time:

4. Mod Makeup
Twiggy was the originator of this iconic look, but I am so glad it’s coming back. To get this eye look, you’ll want to put a contrast liner on your crease, light shadow on the lids, cat eye liner, and white liner on the bottom lash line. This will give your eyes a doll-like shape. To finish off, opt for a nude or peachy lip and fluffy eyebrows to keep the look modern:

5. Wide Sunglasses
Bold sunglasses are the easiest way to transform your whole outfit, especially a wide lens option. These aviators are so adorable and perfect for the summertime:
